Newsflash: Brexit – breaking the European Union?
The world we woke up to this morning is a very different one. The majority of British citizens have decided to leave the EU. We cannot underestimate the impact of the referendum outcome. Prime Minister David Cameron has resigned and the stock markets are haemorrhaging. It’s the end of the world as we know it.
But what does Brexit really mean for you?
It is clear that the referendum is the starting shot for negotiations for the UK’s ‘voluntary and unilateral withdrawal’ from the EU, negotiations that could last for years. From a tax and legal point of view, Brexit also raises numerous questions:
- will (tax) treaties be renegotiated?
- what about EU directives?
- what are the consequences when it comes to VAT and customs and excise?
- what about cross-border employment (social security)?
There are many questions but as yet no answers. Together with our experts we will be closely following all developments. If you would like to receive news and views on tax-related and other developments in the Brexit story, ten register below for our regular updates!
